A Range of Veneers Multiple Types in Mt. Pleasant, SC
If you are looking for a celebrity with less than perfectly shaped, white teeth…good luck! Hollywood is full of picture-perfect, glowing smiles and most celebrities have just one procedure to thank for that – dental veneers!
Veneers are a dental cosmetic solution for changing the size, shape, and overall appearance of your teeth and smile. This treatment can last for many years, which makes it one of the most durable and trusted “smile makeover” procedures.
Benefits of Dental Veneers
- Instantly improve the appearance of your smile
- Permanent procedure
- Can last for many years with proper care
- Stain Resistant
- The shading can be selected to be whiter, offering a great alternative to teeth whitening
Resin: Resin veneers are made from resin composite material. They are typically thinner than other types and can mean less tooth structure is removed before placement. However, this often means a higher risk of cracking. They also do not reflect light as naturally as porcelain and may not last as long as other materials.
Porcelain: At Smiling Oak Dentistry we provide porcelain dental veneers in Mount Pleasant, SC. Porcelain is the ideal material for this treatment because it reflects light in the same way a natural tooth does, making it appear more natural than any other type. They are also more durable, able to last longer than other materials,
Types of Problems They Fix
Porcelain veneers are quite comprehensive in the number of dental problems that they mask. Here are just a few of the flaws they can fix:
- Stained/discolored teeth
- Worn-down teeth
- Teeth that are misaligned
- Teeth that are too short
- Gaps between teeth
- Chipped or cracked teeth
There are several steps required to place veneers.
1st step: This first step is the initial consultation with Dr. Gardner. He will examine your oral health, teeth and ask for your desired goals. Once a treatment plan has been customized according to your needs, Dr. Gardner will then prep the teeth.
In order to prepare a tooth to receive a veneer, a tiny amount of enamel must be removed. This allows for a natural-looking fit (otherwise your new smile will appear bulky). The amount of enamel removed is often so tiny that no anesthesia is needed. If patients still request anesthesia, however, Dr. Gardner will use enough to put them at ease.
2nd step: Once the proper amount of enamel is removed, Dr. Gardner will then make impressions of the newly filled tooth. These impressions are sent to a laboratory where the customized veneers are designed. Because it often takes 2-3 weeks for the permanent set to come in, the patient is fitted with a temporary set of tooth-shaped shells that will protect the teeth.
3rd step: When the veneers arrive from the laboratory, the patient will come in and have the temporary set removed. After inspecting the size, color, and shape of the permanent new “teeth”, Dr. Gardner will cement them to the surface of the tooth and make any last-minute adjustments for a flawless and beautiful final result!
Cost of Dental Veneers
The cost of this procedure varies greatly depending on the dentist, the amount of veneers placed, and the type of material used. However, the average cost of veneers can be around several hundreds of dollars per tooth.
Unfortunately, insurance does not typically cover this procedure unless it falls under the label of “post-procedural” care (i.e. after a filling or other restorative procedure). For more information on pricing, call our office to schedule your consultation today!
How Do I Know If They Are Right For Me?
This service is not right for everyone. Candidates for this service must:
- Have healthy teeth and gums
- Not suffer from gum disease, tooth decay, or root canal infection
- Understand that the treatment is permanent
- Not suffer from bruxism (teeth grinding)
- Have a sufficient amount of enamel on teeth
For more information on whether this procedure is right for you, ask our dentist in Pleasant, SC.
This procedure is permanent but that does not mean that they’re not susceptible to damage. These shells are strong but can chip or crack. In order to avoid this, do not bite your nails or hard objects such as ice or pencils. Avoid putting excessive pressure on the teeth.
Also, teeth with these shells can still experience decay so proper oral hygiene is a must! Brush at least twice a day and floss at least once. The color of the veneer cannot change so if you plan on whitening your teeth, do so before having them placed.
